Mountain Roots

Mountain Roots is a food systems initiative located in Gunnison, CO. As producers we grow diversified vegetables in two community farms and leafy greens and herbs in four hydroponic container farms. We operate a 200-member CSA with 25% of shares to low-income and vulnerable community members. We operate a small food hub and support emerging local producers in growing their businesses by providing connectivity / access to new markets, marketing and consumer education, a minimal processing facility, and aggregation and distribution. We run a district-wide Farm to School program for Gunnison Watershed School District, bringing Environmental & Nutrition education to youth and improving school meals through procurement and cafeteria reform. Our food security programs distribute free fresh food to those in need, and foster movement through a food security continuum to build self-sufficiency.
